May is National Correct Posture Month

To spread awareness and increase efforts towards knowledge translation regarding a certain health condition, many organizations and advocacy groups choose certain weeks or months throughout the calendar year to concentrate their efforts. No matter how large the organization or advocacy group is and no matter what their funding structure looks like, each and every one of them is focused on a certain degree of awareness and in selecting a week or month put of the year to dedicate to their chosen cause, they can achieve and far surpass their goals.

In some cases, organizations come together to pool their resources in this weeklong or month-long effort concentration and in chiropractic care the effort is especially collaborative. The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress, along with many other chiropractic advocacy groups and organizations devoted to similar causes have selected May as “National Correct Posture Month.” This is quite unique as when these awareness efforts are carried out for other health conditions, they are not necessarily concentrated on interventions that can be made to improve the condition and more on the condition itself.

Musculoskeletal health conditions and the individual’s posture are intertwined and if we do not focus on correct posture, then the propensity to develop musculoskeletal injuries and/or chronic conditions increases significantly.

This month-long promotion of good postural habits will bring the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress will take many different routes to communicate the need for correct posture. Social media campaigns that spread across all channels are particularly effective, with material being allocated to Facebook, Twitter, Vine, and various other platforms that have proven to be so effective in forming an interactive community for so many of us.

There will also be an emphasis on education, as the organization will try to reach as many different individuals as possible with their in-house materials. Whether this comes electronically via email blasts or via print form in handing out flyers and sending mailers to all associates, the Foundation for Chiropractic Progress is dedicated to promoting this cause. With the correct amount of attention paid to our posture, we have an elevated level of control over our musculoskeletal health.
