Why August's Car Accident Rate Presents Threats to Our Musculoskeletal Health

We are just days away from the month of August, and many of us are enjoying the summer. With great weather, ample opportunity for our favorite activities, and many people around the country on vacation, this is the most active time of the year. With this level of summer activity, the amount of cars on the road increases substantially. While many people may be taking vacations and traveling to their favorite destinations via car, the increased presence of people on the road presents many more opportunities for car accidents.

What may people do not realize is that any sort of automobile accident or collision can result in serious damage to the musculoskeletal system, contributing to poor musculoskeletal health outcomes for the long term. When an automobile collision occurs, the force of impact from the vehicles involved may send shockwaves through the vehicles, throwing around the driver and the passengers a s a result of the force. This can lead to conditions such as whiplash, which is described as a rapid movement of the head in a given direction resulting from the impact. When a driver or passenger experiences whiplash, the symptoms can be devastating for the head, neck, and cervical spine.

The symptoms of whiplash are characterized by a sore neck, a lack of range of motion in the neck, cervical spine misalignment, headaches, blurred vision, dizziness, and much more that an individual who has been involved in a collision may not even realize. When someone is experiencing the symptoms of whiplash, they may not know exactly where to turn. However, the incorporation of chiropractic care as a treatment for this condition has proven to be quite effective.

Chiropractic care can help restore the alignment of the cervical spine, which is extremely compromised in an automobile collision. This can restore blood flow, reduce swelling, and bring the body parts back to their normal functioning after being left dysfunctional after the accident.

There is not much that we can do to avoid automobile accidents besides stay alert and drive as carefully as possible as we see so many crazy drivers on the roads during the summer. However if the event of a car accident happens in your life, consider chiropractic care as a viable option for treatment.
