Chiropractic Care Throughout the Decades

By Debra Rodzinak

Getting older. It’s a phrase no one likes to think about, but the fact is that we are all aging, every day and in every way. As we journey from decade to decade, the toll of wear and tear starts to show on our bodies.

Beginning with the great decade of our twenties, sprains and strains from sports, pregnancy, scoliosis, along with auto and work accidents, are just a few of the stressors our body endures.  When one of these factors puts us down on our back, a chiropractor is often one of the solutions sought. In my twenties, I sought help from a chiropractor for a neck injury I received from head banging too hard at a concert.

As we jump the hurdle of the 20s and ease into our 30s, many of the activities once enjoyed are now replaced with raising children. Sitting in the car for long periods of time as a chauffeur or taking long road trips to see “a magical mouse” may lead to lower back pain. Injuries from falling off a ladder while trying to fix the satellite dish on top of the house may also lead you to a chiropractor. (Yes, this happened to a friend of mine in his 30s.)

Oh the 40s. The age when you begin to realize that yes, in fact, you are old and can actually injure your back while sleeping in bed. For some reason, this is the age when many of us begin to really feel the wear and tear we subjected our bodies to in our younger years. Most of the visits I have taken to the chiropractor over the years have occurred in my 40s.

Fifties and older

As we cross the half century mark, health issues such as diabetes can put many people on their back with foot and leg pain. Many of these issues are back and spine related. Joints begin to lose their cushion and the pain can manifest in our hips, knees, or backs.
