Make the Healthiest Call & Explore Life’s Choices
Recognize & Explore Options Wherever You Go
I have a friend who always advises, “If you don’t ask the answer is No!” If you think about it, she is saying be aware of everything that’s out there and go after what you really want.
Sometimes it is too easy to say, “No, I can’t do that.” Or, “This is what I have always done.” Without even thinking about it, people close off new paths, and then it’s as if they never existed. So, to combat this, start building a list that fits you & take some test runs.
Where have you always wanted to go?
I have a family member who understood this early. He has hit spots all over the world, including two times on Everest. My travel list is much different, but he is way ahead of me in frequent flyer miles.
How can you make the scale, grocery list and workouts match?
We all try the latest advice on healthy foods, dieting and exercise. But when we look in the mirror, get our health numbers, and step on the scale, what works? You may need to put it all down on paper or do a spreadsheet. And then you may have to do a gut call to get the long range plan that you will keep.
What do you do best? What makes you happy?
People say, “If you love your job you will never work again.” Some know this immediately. Others wait until they are 40 or older, and made the leap from one career to the new one that they really wanted. Figure out what it takes. Sometimes that means going back to school in the evening, or taking a year off to do it. It could mean keeping your regular job for now and spending evenings and weekends developing the new one.
Just how healthy are you? How much better could you be?
We all try the newest health advice as we shop, eat out and cook at home. And we all exercise to build strength and cut stress. But reviewing health numbers with your doctor, pinpointing the best foods, and finding the healthiest ways to exercise could add years to your life.
Where do you live and where do you want to live?
Some of us stay where we have always been. Some of us shoot off to other parts of the country or the world. Some of us have condos in urban areas, when we would really love to have a cottage near the beach. But wherever it is, decide if it works for you. If you love where you are consider yourself blessed. Enjoy. If it is just OK, then spend time in spots that intrigue you and find out what it would be like to actually live there.
Nobody makes all of the right calls all of the time.
But if you are open to the possibilities and do something about them, you might find yourself way ahead of the game.
