Why You Don't Need That Fancy Diet for a Fit Body

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone has the desire to be fit and trim. We want great bodies that look good in any situation. But desiring something and actually acquiring something are two very different things. Sometimes it seems as though being truly fit is some sort of science that the normal person just can’t understand. What are you supposed to eat? What are you supposed to avoid? Should you try this new diet or extreme exercise program? It’s a lot to take in. Fortunately for all of us, getting fit isn’t as complicated as it’s sometimes made out to be. Take a look at why you really don’t need that fancy new diet to get fit, and what you should do instead.

Learn the Basics

Before you go to any extremes, just take the time to learn the very basics of health and fitness. For starters, you have to eat fewer calories than you burn in order to create a caloric deficit. This is the first and most basic step to weight loss. It’s also important to understand the basic food pyramid, and to make sure that you get foods from each section every day. Lastly, get a modest understanding of exercise. You don’t have to be a bodybuilder or professional long distance runner, but an understanding of cardio vs. weights vs. intervals will come in handy down the line.

Move More, Eat Less

If you need it to be even more simple than previously mentioned, just stick to the motto: Move more, eat less. The more you move, the more calories you burn, and the more you’ll feel like moving again. And by eating less, you’ll cut down on your basic caloric intake. So, does this mean you should cut out entire meals or food groups? Not at all. Just cut back on your basic portion sizes and you’re already off to a good start.

Why You Don’t Need a Fancy Routine

If there is a new diet or fitness trend, you don’t have to jump onboard. If it sounds like a good fit, great, but don’t stress yourself. Why? Because almost all new trends are a fancy way of saying exactly what has been said above. They are ways to lower your caloric intake and boost your caloric expenditure. If a new program is calling your name, you can absolutely give it a try with your doctor’s approval, but sticking to the basics is a much easier, longer lasting way to get healthy and fit.

Getting fit and healthy doesn’t have to be a long, drawn out, complicated process. While it will take time and patience, it can be simple and straightforward. Just stick to the basics and be persistent. You may not look like a fitness model, but you will absolutely improve your fitness and health level. With some effort, focus, and long-term goals, you’ll slowly and steadily get to the body of your dreams.
