Get Rid of Your Headache Naturally

People who suffer from headaches will tell you that they can be pretty debilitating. If your head is pounding it’s pretty hard to focus on anything else, making getting work done impossible. Usually headaches are seen as something to just pop a pill for and forget about it, but sometimes headaches are more than just normal aches and pains. It might be a way that your body is telling you that it needs help.

Whether it’s dehydration, a nutrient deficiency, stress, sleep deprivation or a food allergy, headaches can be caused from a wide variety of reasons. If you are experiencing them frequently, and you don’t want to fall into a habit of overusing pain pills, there are natural ways to get some relief. Below are a few of the ways you can get rid of your head pain without resorting to medications.

Magnesium Supplements

Taking 200-600 mg a day of magnesium can drastically lower the amount of headaches you experience, due to its ability to block pain transmitters in the brain. Magnesium also stops brain signals from producing sensory changes, which are associated with headaches and migraines. Keeping your magnesium levels up will prevent against future headache episodes.

Cutting Out Gluten

Even if you don’t have celiac disease, you may have an intolerance to gluten. If you are unknowingly sensitive to gluten, it may be what is causing all your headaches. Since many of us eat foods with gluten in them daily, in order to find out if that is what is causing your headaches you must cut out all gluten products from your diet for at least three weeks. If you notice that your headaches dissipate, then you found the culprit.

Essential Oils

Peppermint and lavender oil are great substances to use in relieving headache pain. Instead of taking acetaminophen, try rubbing one of these oils on your forehead and temples to ease your aching head. Peppermint oil causing a cool sensation, as well as increases forehead blood flow. Lavender oil can work most efficiently at relieving head pain by inhaling the oil’s sent for 15 minutes. A study found that out of 129 participants, 92 found that this treatment improved their headaches.

Drink Lots of Water

Most of us are dehydrated without even knowing it. Not only do we drink many drinks throughout the day that contribute to dehydrating, such as coffee, tea, soda and alcohol, but it’s easy to forget to drink as much water as our bodies require throughout the day. If you are experiencing a headache, before doing anything else, drink a full glass of water and wait. Then drink some more. Most likely your headache will greatly decrease just by doing this simple step.
