How to Increase Flexibility and Move Without Pain

The older I get, the more it hurts to do normal things like...well, move. Some days it hurts to wake up. It hurts to stretch or exercise. It hurts to sleep, for heaven’s sake. It gets pretty frustrating to say the least. I often think about what causes such pain as time goes on, and the truth seems to come down to one thing.

Flexible is no longer a word used to describe me. In fact, this happens to most people as age creeps upward. We lose flexibility, and unless we work very hard to maintain it, we lose mobility as well. For those interested in getting some of this flexibility and movement back again, check out these tips for moving more with less pain.

Stretch Often

The power of stretching is simply amazing. It promotes movement and increases range of motion. Without it, you may become stiff and immobile. Get a good stretching routine and perform it every single day. Make sure that there are specific moves that include the neck area. If possible, join a stretching class like yoga where you can learn how to keep all parts of the body flexible. While stretching may not prevent or heal all types of pain or inflexibility, it can certainly help when it comes to keeping you moving.

Use Heat Everyday

Heat is almost like a wonder drug. It can help sore areas so much and promote healing. If you find that you are not as flexible as you like, try adding heat to the mix every day. Pop on a heating pad at night. Hop in a hot shower and let the steam do its magic. Rub on some IcyHot before work. There are so many ways to let heat permeate and get the job done. Sticking to this habit might be just the ticket in expanding your flexibility and knocking away soreness.

Chiropractic Care

Another great way to stay moving is to get chiropractic care on a regular basis. A chiropractor works by aligning the spine properly. When the spine is misaligned, it can cause a lot of pain and stiffness, which can discourage movement. Getting care on a regular basis may help keep the spine aligned on a continual basis, meaning movement is less restricted and flexibility is increased almost by default.

If you would like to try chiropractic care to get pain and stiffness away from your body, check out The Joint...the Chiropractic Place. The Joint makes getting care easier than ever. Don’t have time? A chiropractor at The Joint may be able to align your spine and get your body moving in the right direction once again.
