Walking 10,000 Steps A Day The Easy Way

According to the National Institute of Health, the number of steps needed to be taken by any fully grown individual adult is ten thousand each day. If it sounds like a lot, it's because it is. However, with that said, meeting the lofty goal of 10,000 a day can not only keep you moving and active, but it lessens the risk that you have of developing heart health issues.

Now, if you're regularly physically active, the steps won't matter quite as much, especially if you're pumping iron or participating in another low impact exercise that gets the blood flowing and the muscles moving. However, for those that have trouble getting to the gym three times a week or more, walking can be the easy alternative you take to getting yourself healthy and back on track.

The simplest and easiest way to o this is to make an attempt at turning every step you take each day, into its own personal exercise routine. Considering that the average amount of steps taken on just a normal city block here in the United states is roughly 200, then 10,000 steps is the equivalent of walking about 50 blocks. The large majority of the population walks about that much in a given day anyway, so meeting your daily goal may not be so difficult after all.

Try some of these tips and tricks to getting your 10,000 in with ease:

Walk the Morning Commute

Depending on just how far your commute is, if its within walking distance, the odds are that you'll be able to get to and from work in about 1,000 steps alone. Perhaps you can walk to public transportation, and not only save the health of your own body, but the planet as well. If you absolutely must take a vehicle to work, why not purposely park as far away from the door to your place of work, and give yourself a few extra steps each day?

Break For Lunch

You can walk up to 3,000 steps during a lunch break if you really put your mind to it. Instead of sitting at your desk, or in the cafeteria, walk around, grab some fresh air and burn the calories that you're currently consuming. If you have time, you may even think about walking to get your lunch and walking back .

Make the Rounds

Instead of using that booing voice or the online messenger system in the office, why not be a little more personable and active? Get up, walk around, and talk to people every day. Add some additional walking around time to your day, aside from those bathroom breaks you take every so often. Take a few laps around the building if needed too.

Take the Stairs

Do this whenever possible. Elevators are convenient, but walking can help to keep you more alert throughout the day, it can hep to burn calories easily and it also gets the blood pumping in the system which helps in everything from brain activity to breathing.
