Chiropractic for Pinched Nerves

The nervous system is interconnected throughout our bodies, allowing organs to function properly and a person to respond to stimuli. The nervous system goes from our head to our toes and if something is out of whack in our neck, it may be felt in the arm of thigh. When someone suffers from a pinched nerve, it means that a nerve is compressed and in an abnormal position. Pinched nerves are somewhat common and can be caused by improper posture, lifting heavy items or reaching for something in an awkward way.

Most people do not treat their nerve pressure, and instead try to maintain their pain levels assuming it will go away on its own. It is strongly urged that any unusual pain or weakness in the muscles are joints should be consulted on with a physician. Chiropractic doctors, who are specially trained in nervous system issues, can easily treat pinched nerves. The chiropractor will exam a patient’s back and note any misaligned vertebrae, also know as subluxations. When these vertebrae are out of place, they can put intense pressure on the nerves in the spine – the same cause of a pinched nerve.

Once noting any subluxations, the chiropractor will prescribe a treatment plan, which will most likely involve spinal manipulation. These adjustments can be done using the hands or a special device, and are a gentle, non-invasive way to put misaligned vertebrae back where they belong. Once the spine is aligned, nerve blocks are removed allowing blood to bring oxygen and other nutrients throughout the body. This improved circulatory function can help relieve pain and boost the immune system. Regular visits may also help a pinched nerve heal faster and prevent future damage. When left untreated, pinched nerves can cause extreme pain, reduced mobility, and inflammation.
