The Benefits of Epsom Salt - Relieve Pain, Reduce Stress, and Protect Your Heart

With the holiday season comes stress and a lot of it. While your to-do list may be a mile long, now is the perfect time to relax and take a bath with Epsom salts. Not only with this bath help relax you, but the Epsom salt offers many health benefits.

Epsom salt has been around a long time and is the go-to for athletes to combat sore muscles. Even though salt is in its name, Epsom salt is actually a pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulfate. Studies show that, “Magnesium plays a number of roles in the body including regulating the activity of over 325 enzymes, reducing inflammation, helping muscle and nerve function and helping to prevent artery hardening. Sulfates help improve the absorption of nutrients, flush toxins and help ease migraine headaches.” If those benefits are not enough for you to draw a bath, here are a few more:

Epsom salt also helps reduce your stress because it helps your body to produce serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical in the brain that brings an overall calm feeling to your body and mind. Epsom salt also lowers blood pressure and helps you sleep – both essential factors that can raise your stress levels too.

If you have a nagging pain or health problem, try Epsom salt in your bath. Be warned though that Epsom salt removes toxins from the body. This, of course, is a wonderful thing, but it can leave you very tired after bath – so bathe before bedtime. Also, since Epsom salt is so powerful, it is best to only soak for 12-20 minutes. Also, be sure to keep hydrated while in the tub.
