3 Ways to Instantly Boost Your Mood

By Genevieve Cunningham

Everyone has those days. You know the ones … the days where you just can’t get out of your negative mood and general terrible attitude. You feel a little blue or irritated, and you don’t really know why. While these kinds of days are a normal part of the ups and downs of life, it’s also normal to want to nip the attitude in the bud and turn your day around. If you’re interested in beating poor moods and bad days, check out these three ways to instantly boost your mood and get your day turned completely around.

Listen to Music

Music truly has a way of transforming your attitude, but the key is to make it your music. You need to listen to the music that lifts your spirit and makes you feel good about life. And this music may be different for everyone. Most experts agree that slightly softer music with an upbeat tempo works wonders, but if this kind of music sets your teeth on edge, you’ll need something else. Keep your feel-good playlist on reserve, and have it handy for anytime you need a quick reset in the day.

Get Some Physical Exercise

At first, you’ll still notice your bad mood while you’re exercising. In fact, you might feel it get worse since you have a bad attitude and you’re doing something strenuous. But it won’t take long at all for the tension in your body to melt away and for all of your focus to be on the task at hand. Physical exercise lowers stress levels, boosts moods, enhances concentration, and makes us feel better overall. Whether you go for a walk or jog, join an aerobics class, or try something new, just get up and get moving.

Take a Break and Do Something You Love

Sometimes all it takes to turn a bad mood around is to focus on something you love. If your day isn’t going quite right, stop what you’re doing and redirect your energy. Do you love to paint? Spend a few minutes with some paint and a brush. Do you love bird watching? Take those binoculars and get outside for a few minutes. Sometimes some redirected focus makes all the difference between a good mood and a bad one.

It’s really OK to have some bad days. It’s OK to feel grumpy or out of touch for the day. But it’s also OK to turn these days into great ones! These tips may help you refocus your mind and get out of your slump. Use them as often as you need, and you’ll have the power to turn your bad days and poor moods into positive ones anytime you need.
