3 Easy Ways to Begin the Weight Loss Journey

By Genevieve Cunningham

As soon as the holidays are over, most of us begin to think about how we’re going to lose the extra pounds we gained over the break. While gaining weight during this time of year is fairly normal, it’s not good for our health, and it’s definitely frustrating. But unfortunately, no matter the time of year, losing weight is incredibly difficult. The key to getting started? Start small! Take a look at these tips for beginning your weight loss journey to set yourself up on the path of success.

Stick to H2O

Many people make this very common mistake, and though it seems minor, the effects are much bigger than most realize. If you’re a soda drinker, you’re already setting yourself up for failure. Soda is essentially empty calories. You’re taking in calories full of sugar and other unnecessary ingredients, and you’re getting zero good from it in return. If you’re ready to get serious about weight loss, drink water all day … and nothing else. If you sneak in one cup of coffee or one cup of tea, it won’t be the end of the world, but stick to water as much as possible and you’ll see results much faster.

Get Rid of Chips and Prepackaged Sweets

It’s all too easy to reach for an unhealthy snack when you’re hungry … or even worse, when you’re bored. When you’re ready to focus on fitness, just throw all of the unhealthy snacks out. Start with chips and prepackaged sweets. Potato chips are terrible for your health; they’re full of salt and fats and provide zero in the way of nutritional benefits. Prepackaged sweets, though delicious and satisfying, are packed with far more sugar and fat than you need in a day. Throw these out, and replace them with fresh fruits, veggies, or nuts for a much healthier snack option.

Walk for 15 Minutes

If you haven’t been working out, the thought of exercise can be enough to make you quit before you start. Don’t set yourself up for this sort of failure. Instead, shoot for walking a simple 15 minutes a day. You might be surprised at just how much this changes your body, mind, energy level, and mood. Once you’ve made this a habit, you can add time to your walk or incorporate a new workout.

Losing weight is definitely tough, but you don’t have to make it harder on yourself. Use these tips to get a nice and easy jumpstart on the process. With some persistence and patience, you’ll lose the weight and feel better than ever before you know it.
