Healthy Food Hacks

By Sara Butler

People are always looking for ways to be healthier that are easy – and who can blame them? Your life is busy enough, which is often why eating unhealthy and on-the-go foods can become a problem. Well, have no fear because here are some healthy food hacks that are easy to do and can make a big difference at your dinner table!

Cauliflower Connection

People are using cauliflower for all kinds of things these days. You can use it as a substitute for pizza crust and as a low carbohydrate alternative to white rice! All you need to do to make this happen is buy a head a cauliflower and shred it with a grater. Then, sauté it just like you would rice or steam it and mix it with some cheese, Italian spices and an egg to form a pizza crust that is just as delicious as any bread crust you’ve ever had – maybe even better!

Veggie Noodles

You’ve probably seen vegetable spiralizers on the market lately. If you want to provide your family with a healthy alternative to pasta, get a spiralizer and use it on your favorite vegetables such as zucchini or yellow squash to turn them into noodles. You can also buy a spaghetti squash and use it in place of carbohydrate-laden noodles in your next pasta dish.

Serve Up an Unwich

In place of bread on your favorite sandwich, use an iceberg lettuce leaf or the leaf from a collard green. It helps to not only remove calories and carbs from your meal; it also adds vitamins and minerals that are good for your body!

Protein Powder Punch

Have you ever thought of substituting part of the flour called for in a recipe with a high-quality protein powder? If you haven’t you should try it! Pancakes are a great thing to try this out on by simply replacing about half the flour with protein powder and cooking them up.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has a lot of health benefits, and it’s a source of healthy fat. So, try using coconut oil in place of vegetable oils when you cook and bake. It’s a small switch that can make a big difference in your overall health.

Bottoms Up!

Of course one of the best things you can do to increase your health is to drink plenty of water. If you replaced the tea, coffee or soft drinks you had over the course of the day with a glass of water you can keep your body healthier and give it more energy!

Try some of these health food hacks at home and see what a difference they can make!
