Dangerous Things You Should Avoid Cooking With

When you hear the word “dangerous” you mind may conjure images of great white sharks or nuclear weapons, surely not anything you have in your kitchen! There are some things that could be in your kitchen right now that are harmful to your health and your efforts to lead a healthy lifestyle. You could be cooking the healthiest food on the planet, but if you’re cooking it with one of these materials then you need to stop – pronto!
The pots and pans in your kitchen could have a harmful impact on your health. Recent research has found several materials that, when heated, create toxins that can find their way into the food you eat. Some of these materials also create a nice nesting ground for bacteria to live in and around the very place you handle your food! So, take a look at these cooking materials to determine if you have any you should toss from your kitchen as soon as possible.
Aluminum foil can be good for many things – from creating hats to fixing the reception on your television built in 1983. What it’s not so good for is cooking. You’ve probably seen a recipe for handy envelope meals that involve cooking vegetables and some kind of protein in an envelope made of aluminum foil, but aluminum foil isn’t oxidized as the aluminum pots and pans you cook with are, which allows the aluminum to leach into food. The hotter the temperature you use, the more aluminum can seep into what you’re cooking.
Why is this a big deal? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, aluminum consumption has been linked with Alzheimer’s disease. Replacing aluminum foil to cook with isn’t difficult, so don’t worry. Just reach for some parchment paper and leave the foil for hat making.
The idea of non-stick cookware is kind of awesome, but in reality, it is full of chemicals that you want nowhere near your food. Many non-stick pans are manufactured with a coating called Teflon and that contains a chemical by the name of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). This chemical is linked to all kinds of health conditions such as impaired learning, infertility, and weight gain.
So, get rid of those non-stick pans and reach for classic pans with no coating. To keep foods from sticking, use a healthy fat to coat the pan!
