Surprising Ways You're Making Back Pain Worse

By Stepy Kamei

Let's face it: We all have our vices, and no one is immune to indulging in one or two bad habits on at least an occasional basis. For instance, I know that I have a bad habit of stuffing my face with junk food shortly before falling asleep. Even though I know this can interrupt my sleep and leave me tired the next day, I still indulge in it occasionally. Unhealthy habits like these are easy to pick up and can lead to all kinds of health issues somewhere down the line. Back pain is no exception to this. If you're anything like millions of Americans, you've probably experienced some form of back pain at least once in your life. If the cause was unclear, a bad habit may be to blame. By phasing these habits out and replacing them with better habits, such as seeing a chiropractor, you can be on your way to experiencing less back pain and better overall health.

Not Watching What You Eat

I can serve as proof that society's obsession with snacks and junk food is strong. You probably already know that indulging in too much unhealthy food can lead to weight gain, but it can cause back pain, too. This is because foods which are high in sugar or fat content tend to increase inflammation in the body, which creates discomfort in the joints and soft tissues. Add to this that any excess weight put on by these unhealthy eating habits can strain the spine by shifting the center of gravity farther away from the back, and you've got a recipe for disaster.

One More Reason to Quit

If you still need one more reason to quit smoking or drinking excessively, keep in mind they can cause problems to your health, and so they really aren't worth indulging in. Nicotine and alcohol increase the body's inflammatory response. As you now know, excess inflammation in the body does more harm than good.

These bad habits may be easily acquired, but they can be difficult to stop. It may help you to simply focus on phasing in better habits, rather than trying to quit cold turkey. One great healthy habit you should consider starting up is seeing a chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic clinics. Chiropractic is a safe and natural way to bring about relief from chronic back pain.
