Crazy Diets and Tips for Healthy Eating - 2nd Week

By Genevieve Cunningham

If you are already at your perfect goal weight, congratulations. You are definitely in the minority. Most people carry around at least a few pesky pounds that just won’t seem to drop. It’s normal, but it’s also very frustrating. This frustration sometimes leads us to do some crazy things. Take a look at a couple of the crazier diets out there, followed by real advice on how to slim down and get fit.

Crazy Diets

Sometimes people will do anything to lose weight, as evidenced by the two diets below. If you’ve tried these or other similar diets, it might be time to get the help and advice of a professional in the weight loss industry.

  • The Grapefruit Diet - This diet has you eating grapefruit and nothing but grapefruit for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. While you’ll likely lose weight for obvious lack of calories, you’ll also lose a great deal of health for obvious lack of nutrients.

  • The HCG Diet - This fad requires you to place a few drops of a particular hormone, HCG, under the tongue every day. You are then supposed to eat about 500 calories a day. The idea is that this hormone keeps your body feeling full but still burning calories. With such a restricted caloric intake, it’s no wonder this works temporarily.

Real Tips for Healthy Eating

Don’t go for crazy diets or the newest fads. Patience, persistence, and positivity are key. Instead of the newest fad, stick to the timeless advice listed below.

  • Don’t Cut Food Groups - Unless you’ve got a doctor’s orders or an allergy, eat a little bit from every food group every day. This ensures appropriate nutrient intake.

  • Drink Plenty of Water - Coffee and tea and juice and soda are all tempting, but nothing beats plain old H2O. Drink at least 8 glasses a day.

  • Balance is Key - The advice from professionals has always been to eat a well balanced diet. This advice hasn’t changed for decades, so why change it now? Eat a healthy number of calories from a variety of foods. The more balance there is in your diet, the more there will be in your body and life.

Eating healthy, losing weight, and getting fit are not about the newest craze on TV or the internet. It’s about sticking to professional advice and being consistent. Avoid these diets and use these tips to help you get moving toward a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.
