The Results Are In : Chiropractic Consistently Grabs More Patient Votes

We live in a fast paced world and comparisons are often made over everything from laundry detergent to leisure activities. But when the voting zeroes in on back care providers, chiropractors often turn up near the top on the score charts.

Patient Satisfaction

Hertzman-Miller in the American Journal of Public Health said chiropractic patients were more satisfied with their back care providers after four weeks of treatment than were the medical patients. Results from observation studies suggested back pain patients are more pleased with chiropractic care than medical treatment. The studies also showed that the patients were more satisfied with chiropractic care than they were with physical therapy after six weeks.

I have known a whole range of people with back pain issues. They all found their way to the chiropractor’s office and then they worked their way back to their regular round of activities. Some had a lot more pain than others, but the chiropractor was able to help them come up with some good answers.

Visiting the Chiropractor

Pain along the spinal column in the back may be caused by subluxations or misalignment of the vertebrae. A small misalignment can cause pain by putting pressure on the nerves. Left untreated these misalignments can cause muscle spasms and increasing pain. The chiropractic adjustments are done to properly align the spine and relieve the pressure.

Along with the spinal adjustment the chiropractor will do a complete medical history review and then discuss the patient’s normal schedule of activities. The goal of the chiropractor will be to seek to relieve pain and return the patient to their normal routine without medication or surgery.

As a course of treatment evolves, the chiropractor may want to talk about weight loss, relaxation and strength exercises, and stress releasing classes like Tai Chi and yoga.

Many patients that I know who have returned again and again to their chiropractors say they find them to be great health and wellness coaches ready with good safety advice and hands on assistance when painful twinges suddenly show up.

I have seen this happen with young, active outdoors types who run, bike and hike, middle aged fellows who don’t want to give up their fishing, camping and traveling time, and young and old women who enjoy very active schedules and don’t want a lot of back pain slowing it down.

Wherever you fit, consider seeing the chiropractor for some really good answers.
