From Couch Potato to Half-Marathon: How Chiropractic Helped Me with My Bucket List
By Debra Rodzinak
A few years ago, I decided to check off one of my “bucket list” items: To run a half marathon. A “half” (as it is lovingly referred to by most runners) is half of a marathon race. A full marathon is 26.2 miles, so a half marathon is half that amount, 13.1 miles. Now you may ask, “Why would anyone in their right mind want to run over 13 miles when there is a perfectly good vehicle right there in the parking lot?” After a few months of running longer distances, I began to ask myself the same question.
I developed aches and pains in my knees, hips, and back. How would I ever reach my goal if I couldn’t get up and even walk without pain and stiffness? The answer was chiropractic adjustments. Being on a budget, I wasn’t sure if I could afford chiropractic care. Turns out, it was well worth the money and much less expensive than endless trips to the doctor.
My joint problems were due to several issues: Improper shoes, my running style, and one leg being slightly shorter than the other causing my hips to turn. After a few adjustments from my chiropractor, my pain started to subside and I found myself running longer and harder than ever before!
Begin with Chiropractic Care
Before, “running” to a doctor, I decided to begin with a chiropractor because I wanted my spine and joint issues addressed without the use of commonly prescribed drugs. If I was going to run longer and longer distances, I needed to have my body in tip-top condition and pain medication would not get me there. I needed a natural approach to dealing with my joint problems. I needed a chiropractor.
With a focus on the whole body, chiropractic care at The Joint does not use drugs to mask pain symptoms, but rather goes after the root of the pain through gentle adjustments to the spine and joints. By working with patients, doctors at The Joint are able to create a plan for wellness using adjustments to the spine and joints.
At The Joint, costs are low and plans for the entire family are available. With no appointment times needed, just drop by The Joint and talk with one of our experts on crafting a plan that allows you to address your spine and joint issues. Since The Joint is open longer than most doctor’s offices and on weekends, patients have a more convenient way to treat their aches and pains related to the spine and joints.
I was able to complete my half marathon and check it off my bucket list with the help of chiropractic care. My next goal? Full marathon!
