How it Works: Deep Tissue Laser Therapy

Technology is changing the way that so many different operations within healthcare are carried out. Between the amount of technological innovation occurring in practice management and administration processes, the diverse healthcare interfacing that technology is providing individuals with via smart phone applications and remote wellness coaches, and the constant advances that we are seeing in the medical technology sector, we are ultimately seeing a brand new healthcare landscape in the twenty-first century.

Focusing on the technological advancement in the medical equipment space, we see that there are new developments each and every day. New radiology machines are being produced at some of the nation’s leading biomechanical engineering institutions, new medications are being developed by major companies; there is something new every day in the healthcare space.

In the chiropractic care community, one technological application that is being used more and more is deep tissue laser therapy. This involves a piece of equipment that is run over the outside of the skin, passing low frequency lasers across the skin and into the body. These lasers are focused on areas of the body where there has been any sort of musculoskeletal injury.

Ideally, the low frequency lasers are used to reach into the muscles and tissues in the area where the injury is occurring and restore order in these tissues. If there is a strain, a tear, or any other sort of malformation in the muscle that is resulting in pain, discomfort, and inflammation, the lasers are able to help the muscle repair faster and help us recover from the injury at a quicker rate.

If a chiropractor is able to administer deep tissue laser therapy for the muscles and nerves that are afflicted with injury and provide chiropractic adjustments for the skeletal components in this area of the body, then the road to recovery is much shorter than we would think. Technology is changing healthcare as we know it and in there is no exception in the chiropractic space. The development of new and more precise lasers may even be able to heal muscles faster and with less invasive methods sooner than we think.
