When Weight's a Battle, Your Chiropractor May Help

Many of us have battled the scale as we fought to lose extra pounds, and some of us have found extra weight to be a life changer and sometimes even a health changer.

When weight impacts everything.

A friend of mine definitely fell into the latter category. She was a beautiful lady, even though she was carrying an extra forty to fifty pounds. Her clothes were carefully chosen and she had a lovely face, so everything worked for awhile. Her biggest delight was helping with fundraisers and staging open houses in her home to raise funds. Of course, lavish buffets and lots of calories tagged right along with these efforts.

My friend helped many organizations for many years, but she gradually found herself slowed down by her increasing weight and the stress that it put on the rest of her body. Her joints were showing the strain and she needed more and more help to keep her community efforts going.

Weight can impact hips, knees, ankles and the lower back with as little as a 10 pound weight gain changing body alignment and balance.

Finally she went to her doctor and to her chiropractor for answers.

Together the three of them took a look at the situation and found some ways to help her. After a doctor’s visit and a new diet, the chiropractor did a spinal adjustment and evaluated her joint pain. The chiropractor’s goal is to help find relief without medication or surgery. The initial visit includes the spinal adjustment along with a medical history and activities’ review. In my friend’s case the suggested solutions started with her diet, added counseling therapy and relaxation exercises, and then moved on to more ways to help her be more active as she lost weight. She signed up at a gym and added a yoga class.

The whole process took several months, but my friend was determined to regain her life, and she did. Learning new ways to serve buffets with lower calorie foods, my friend exercised more and learned to let go of much of the tension and stress in her life as she dropped the extra pounds. The end result was remarkable. Still as striking as ever, but much slimmer, she launched a new series of fundraiser buffets and celebrated her transition.

If you or someone in your family is facing obesity, your chiropractor may be able to help. Don’t wait, find out how you might drop weight, lessen joint pain and improve your health.
