Cold Laser Therapy May Enhance Chiropractic Treatments

When you hear the word ‘laser’, I’m sure therapeutic massage isn’t exactly the first image that comes to mind, and that’s obviously completely understandable. However, you may be surprised to learn that some doctors of chiropractic do in fact turn to laser therapy in order to enhance their manual manipulation techniques and treatment methods.

So, what exactly is cold laser therapy in chiropractic circles, and how can it work to benefit you or even relieve you of your physical pain? I found a great post by American Chiropractic Association that really breaks down the definition and the process in a truly easy to understand kind of manner. Read on to find out what I learned.

To start, cold laser therapy is actually one of the newer chiropractic procedures out there today. This doesn’t necessarily make it any less safe; it has been repeatedly tested for safety before being used successfully on many patients with various pain related conditions. As for the scary sounding title of the procedure? There’s really no need to worry, since believe it or not, it is actually a non invasive therapy treatment.

Since no surgical incision is required, chances are high that you will recover at a much faster rate, and you will not be stuck in bed for days afterwards waiting for the ability to walk again, the way you would after a surgery. Laser therapy also does not require a patient to take any medications in conjunction with the procedure, so there is definitely nothing to worry about there; no potentially risky side effect means a less worrisome experience for the patient overall.

Cold laser therapy is also known as low level laser therapy, and it is a treatment that uses very specific wavelengths of light waves to influence the soft tissues and muscles of the body in a way that is generally known to speed up the healing process. Cold laser therapy can also be used on patients who tend to suffer from acute or chronic pain related conditions in orderto reduce spasms in the muscular area, while also calming inflammation, relieving aches and pains, and restoring mobility and movement to the affected area. A doctor of chiropractic will use this technique by placing the laser over the affected or injured area from anywhere from thirty seconds to a few minutes, depending on a patient’s particular condition.
