Ways To Stay Creative & Reinforce Your Ideas

What happens if you need something, but decide not to ask for it. Essentially by not asking, the answer is automatically NO.

This can happen in the workplace too when we see things that could be changed, or have a whole new idea that could work. Sometimes we share it, but sometimes we hesitate. Why?Huffington Post talked about this recently and said we often let emotional roadblocks stop us. We decide we do not have the time, money, education, skills or whatever to make it work.

If you have ever found yourself in a similar spot, before you let excuses shut you down, try some new approaches.

Work on your idea any way

You may not have put it out there, but rather than abandon it, when you have a spare moment start fleshing out your idea. You might be surprised how quickly it goes together. As the idea takes shape keep it visible and work on it when you have time. Down the road you may become more and more eager to share it, as it develops, and you will be ready with the developed model.

Start building in a little exploratory away time

New ideas sometimes come from our past experience. Take an afternoon here, or a weekend there, to remember who you are. We all plunge into jobs and sometimes forget all of the other things we did before. Give yourself a little room to roam and remember other things you have done. They might lead you to take your idea elsewhere, or convince you that it should be shared.

Watch how others make new ideas happen

You can learn a lot from people who have learned how to put their ideas out there and push them. You may not follow their steps, but knowing their techniques can be helpful.

Do some brainstorming and think about other new ideas

What other ideas have been lurking in the back of your mind? Just throw everything out there, put it all down. Later go back and add more thoughts. This memory pool will grow, tempting you to think and enjoy the process.

Most important, keep the door open

Remember there are lots of other people out there with their own ideas and inventions. Get to know some of them and enjoy learning how they work.

The whole creative process can be a great playground, and the more you work in it, the more comfortable you will become. One idea really might lead to six others, and one creative session means there will be more. Enjoy the whole process and keep working. As you become more comfortable, putting those ideas out there might become inevitable.
