Prevent Back Pain By Sitting Less

If you think about back pain and what the best methods may be for treating and preventing it, a few answers may come to your mind. For many of us, it would seem to make sense that sitting down and resting frequently and often can really help to reduce the amount of pain and discomfort that a person can feel while they are dealing with aches and pains in the upper or lower back, shoulders, or neck area of the body.

While it is true that taking the time to rest and not overwork or strain the back in the wake of an episode of acute or prolonged back pain is inherently a good idea, it turns out that sitting may not exactly be as good for us as we may have initially realized or assumed.

As I learned after coming across a very informative article post by Spine Health, it turns out that taking the time and effort to stay somewhat active, even while dealing with back pain, is actually crucial and necessary to maintaining strong back health, healing from injuries and stresses to the back, and preventing any sort of back pain from occurring later on in the future.

Whether your back pain is acute or chronic, mild or moderate, it is important to continue to stay somewhat active throughout the recovery process. This of course does not mean that you should get right back to lifting large weights at the gym and start planting a garden, since you definitely do not want to overwork or strain the muscles in your back as they heal. Instead, what many doctors, chiropractors, and other healthcare professionals recommend is that you, at the very least, go for short fifteen to twenty minute walks on a daily basis if you can handle it, preferably in an outside environment. These walks can help loosen up your muscles and joints, which can get too stiff after prolonged periods of sitting down and not moving around much. Continue to perform simple small tasks in and around the house as well to keep your spine from becoming too rigid.

One more great thing that you can do to recover from back pain faster is to begin seeing a doctor of chiropractic on a regular basis. Studies have shown that back pain patients who receive regular chiropractic adjustments are much more likely to recover faster than those who do not.
