Sedentary Lifestyles Can Lead To Bone Weakness

If you’ve ever passed an afternoon binging out on watching your favorite movies or shows, or taken out your tablet for a quick email check and ended up staying on the engrossing thing for literally hours, then this post is for you.

It was hard to live a sedentary lifestyle just as recently as fifty or so years ago, since even if you weren’t working all day, you had errands to run and people to meet with outside of the home. However, nowadays things have changed drastically. If we need paper towels or dog food, we can just order them with a click of a button. If we want to chat with an old friend, we have various ways ofcommunicating them through the screen – FaceTime, Skype, even email, to name just a few methods.

No demographic is experiencing these issues more on a firsthand level than children, teenagers, and young adults, who practically grew up with these devices. As the children of the eighties and nineties grew up, so did their computers. So, in the face of all of this, how can we keep our kids – or even ourselves – from succumbing to the many, many health issues that a tech-inspired sedentary lifestyle can cause? As a great and highly informative post by Chiro Nexus examines, chiropractic treatment may be a big part of the answer.

The post cites a few scientific studies that have come to the conclusion that increased time sitting and lying down, especially in young people who are still developing their bone mass, can decrease bone strength and bone mineral density (BMD). As you can no doubt imagine, this can lead to startling health consequences later on down the line. Bone fractures and an increased risk of developing the debilitating condition osteoporosis are just some of the issues at hand here.

The fact of the matter is that this drastically reduced physical movement and activity time in our lives, especially the lives of our children, who are naturally meant to be moving and expending energy in aphysical manner, is setting our healthcare system up for some seriously high costs later on down the line, as we are essentially building up a generation that is literally standing on weak legs. Naturally, these conditions can also lead to increased back pain later on down the line, which is why it is so crucial for people of all ages, including children, to start seeing a chiropractor on a regular basis in order to increase mobility and strengthen the body.
