The Healthy Benefits of Taking Apple Cider Vinegar

It’s likely that by now, you have at least heard of apple cider vinegar. For years now, this food has been touted as a superfood. People and doctors alike are singing its praises. It is said to have so many benefits, it almost seems impossible! With that said, what is the truth? Does apple cider vinegar do all that it claims? Or is it nothing more than a really nasty tasting snake oil? While there seems to be people on both sides of the debate, the sheer number of those claiming healthy benefits seems awfully hard to ignore.

Helps With Heartburn

Apple cider vinegar is acidic, so you might think that it would make things like indigestion worse, but it actually has the opposite effect. Apple cider vinegar has a way of balancing out the heat and uncomfortable feeling of heartburn and calming the sensation. Apple cider vinegar also works as a natural antibacterial agent, so if your troubles come from a bacteria, apple cider vinegar has a double dose of goodness.

Boosts Weight Loss Efforts

A lot of people claim to take apple cider vinegar as either a way to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight. This works for a multitude of reasons. For starters, it can serve as an appetite suppressant, so those taking it as a supplement may not feel as hungry or eat as much. It also helps to detoxify the body. When toxins and waste exit the body on a regular basis, it allows the body to process fuel (food) more efficiently. It can also, some believe, help stop the accumulation of fat. Lastly, apple cider cider vinegar is thought to help keep blood sugar levels at appropriate levels, which can help stop steep rises and falls which can lead to binge eating or other more severe side effects like Diabetes.

Gets Rid of a Sore Throat

This works oh so well. When it comes to a sore throat, nothing works quite as well as apple cider vinegar. Did you ever put salt on an ulcer? You know how it sort of glazes it over with a protective white coat, and it eliminates the pain? Yea...that’s kind of what apple cider vinegar does for a sore throat. Initially, it will really burn, but after a few seconds, it will sort of glaze over and the pain will be gone.

Tones the Skin

Some people use apple cider vinegar externally on the skin as a toner. Mixed 50-50 with water, this concoction works as a bit of an astringent. Wiping the face with it will leave your skin cleaner, tighter, and can even help to get rid of stubborn dark spots. If you choose to give this one a try, test an inconspicuous spot first to test for sensitivity.

Apple cider vinegar has a lot of positive health benefits. Though some claim the benefits are nothing more than hype, an equal number, if not more, people use it daily for its benefits. Remember when trying it out...it’s gross, so give yourself some time to get used to it. If you can stand it, however, add it to your daily routine and reap the healthy benefits every day.
