When Pain Takes Over, Your Chiropractor May Help

I have known perfectly rational, calm, laid back people who turned into different human beings when lower back pain shut down their lives and created 24-7 pain.

No one really expects pain to rule their lives. As we move through the years, broken bones, accidents, burns and other disasters teach us a lot about pain, and why we should be more careful. But nobody really prepares us for that moment when we cannot simply move at all without experiencing real piercing pain.

I had two close friends go through this lower back pain trauma as they left their fifties and found life had taken a whole new turn.

One fellow was a big, heavy construction manager who never let much slow him down. He had a hearty laugh, a big appetite and a great attitude. But after a particularly long week on the job with an overload of work he went home and the next morning found his world was filled with unrelenting lower back pain.

The other fellow was also a big guy, who was used to doing what he wanted when he wanted. He would leave his office job and head out for a run with his black lab, or spend the weekend in the backyard playing with his grandkids.

But one Monday morning, that also came to an abrupt halt as his lower back started calling the shots and they were all painful. Both people struggled not to yell, but you could see the look on their faces, and you knew they were about to explode.

Visiting the Chiropractor for Answers

Both fellows went to the same chiropractor in the same area and they both found answers. The initial visit included spinal manipulation to establish spinal health, a complete medical history and a review of their daily lives.

In both cases, the chiropractor worked through the problem with a succession of visits and a whole program of self help. Each guy learned ways to lose weight, slow down and relax a little, and exercise more to level everything out. This took time, but slowly but surely they were both able to regain a grip on their work and their play time. The chiropractor’s goal is to treat the patient, to try to help relieve pain and restore normal activities without surgery or medications.

If you or someone in your family is facing lower back pain, see your doctor and your chiropractor to start regrouping and reclaiming your life.
