Why Your Body is Like the Winchester Mystery House

I learned something new this week: They’re making a movie starring Helen Mirren about the Winchester Mystery House. I am so all over this. I’ve always found the idea behind this mysterious mansion to be ridiculously interesting. Sarah Winchester was so convinced that she would be haunted by the souls of people killed by Winchester rifles that she built a house that never stopped being built, with doors and stairs that lead nowhere and windows that look into other rooms in order to confuse spirits and help her find peace. Crazy stuff -- but you can bet I’ll be in the theater when it opens in February!

Of course, you know where I’m going with all this. There are some pretty serious parallels between the Winchester Mystery House and your body. However, you don’t want to have hallways that lead nowhere in your home -- which why you need the chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic to help!

Think About It -- Your Body is a House!

Houses come in all sizes and shapes, but they require upkeep to maintain their appearance and keep them functional. If any part of a house breaks or becomes damaged, it needs to be repaired in order to remain standing. Houses also age and wear down with time, often creaking and even cracking when put under years of stress. A house that’s run down often is easier to damage and any critical issue to a home’s foundation puts a strain on the entire structure. Sounds a lot like the human body if you ask me!

The chiropractors at The Joint use their tools to help keep your home strong. These tools come in the form of stress reduction, nutrition, exercise, and adjustments -- particularly to the spine -- that provide a strong foundation for your home. The Winchester House wasn’t destroyed in the 1906 earthquake (“the big one”) because it had a strong foundation that allowed it to shift as the earth moved under it. It survived when other buildings around it were reduced to rubble. In that way, it was ahead of its time! When you build your body on a solid foundation that allows it to stay strong and hold up to the stressors of daily life, then you’re going to be left standing when others around you fall.

Keeping Circuits Running

The Winchester Mystery House has hallways, doors, and staircases that lead to walls, or “nowhere.” That doesn’t make a house functional for everyday use and it doesn’t work for your body, either. One of the goals of the chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic is to eliminate joint dysfunction and restriction in order to promote your overall health and wellness. Your central nervous system must be able to function properly, without irritation or interruption, in order to freely send messages to and from your brain to your entire body. If information can flow freely, then your body can work as it should.

At The Joint Chiropractic, our chiropractors correct, strengthen, and stabilize your home in order to allow it to work its very best to provide you shelter. We understand that a person’s body is a lot like their house – it needs fixing, maintenance, and care.

The Winchester Mystery House is an oddity, but you are not. While it may be true that you are unique, you are certainly not a mystery -- and you’re not being added onto by some paranoid old lady with money to burn! And no, your mother-in-law doesn’t count.
