Three Wishes: If Only Aladdin Had Been a Chiropractor

I saw Aladdin last weekend and the movie was just as good as I thought it would be. I mean, who doesn’t love a rags-to-riches story about a boy with a good heart who prevails over evil and gets three wishes granted by one of the most powerful beings in the universe -- a genie.
As a kid I thought a lot about the three wishes I would want to ask the genie to grant. I’m sure it had something to do with marrying Donnie Wahlberg from the New Kids on the Block. These days, it would be something along the lines of a full kid-free night of sleep. Face it, I’m not 12 anymore.
As you get older, pop star fantasies tend to take a backseat to more important stuff, such as your health. If the chiropractors from The Joint Chiropractic found a lamp and a genie popped out, what do you think they would wish for?
Chiropractic Wish No. 1: All Patients Would Be More Proactive
One of the biggest wishes in the hearts of all chiropractors is for patients to be more proactive with their health, meaning that they understand why regular maintenance is so important to help avoid injury and disease.
Seeing the chiropractor for regular adjustments to help reduce the impact of joint restrictions and dysfunctions in your body, keeping your muscles loose, flexible, and strong, and eating a nutritious diet that keeps your body working optimally are all things you can do to be a little more proactive about your health. Luckily, you don’t need a genie in a bottle to accomplish all these things, just a chiropractor who (literally) has your back.
Chiropractic Wish No. 2: Patients Should Listen to Their Body More Closely
When you experience pain or discomfort, chances are your body has been throwing you some serious signals before pain ever hit the scene and you just didn’t listen. Chiropractors urge their patients to listen to their bodies, to be aware of when they feel stiff, sore, achy, fatigued, or just generally unwell. If you do, then chances are you can nip problems that are creeping up in the bud before they really start to impact your health and wellness.
Chiropractic Wish No. 3: Patients Should Always Look Ahead
Are you reading this on a handheld device right now? Are you holding it straight out in front of you or looking down? Chances are, you’re looking down -- and that’s something your chiropractor wishes you’d stop doing so much so that they’d wish for that instead of wishing they were a prince (or princess).
Tech neck is a 21st century plague that chiropractors see the effects of each day. When you bend your head forward, you place undue stress and strain on your spine, your upper back, and your shoulders. It can result in pain, discomfort, and even loss of function if you’re not careful. So, let your chiropractor have their wish -- keep things at eye level.
It’s tempting to think about all the ways we’d use three wishes from a blue genie who looks suspiciously like Will Smith or sounds a lot like Robin Williams. But if there’s anything Aladdin can teach us, it’s that no number of wishes can change who you are -- and they can’t suddenly make Donnie Walhberg any less married. You simply need to strive to be the best version of yourself you can -- and the healthiest too.
