We live in a world that is obsessed with being fat-free.We buy fat-free foods and think that an ounce of fat on our bodies is too much. But the truth is that fats are actually good for us … as long as we choose the right kinds. Take a look at these reasons why you need fat in your diet, as well as some great sources of healthy fats to add to the menu.

Fat is for Energy

Our body stores fat to use as energy when we don’t have enough food. While most of us aren’t starving, it’s still important to keep a reserve. Otherwise, your body can’t handle sickness or turmoil well. You don’t have to store 50 pounds of fat to have this benefit, though. In fact, a simple five or 10 pounds will generally be enough. Eating the right kinds of fats is probably a lot easier than you think. Avoid junk food, fast food, or anything with trans fat when possible, as these belong on the bad fat list. Instead choose foods such as coconut oil, avocado, nuts, dairy, and olives. All of these contain high amounts of healthy fats that can boost energy and stimulate the brain. A diet full of these healthier options is a great way to boost your well-being and enjoy your menu all in one fell swoop.

Fats are not the enemy. The wrong kinds of fats are probably on the enemies list, but the right kinds of fats can actually significantly boost your health. Use these foods to enhance your diet, and keep these benefits in mind the next time fat phobia rears its ugly head.
