3 Ways to Change Your Diet and Exercise Routine

By Stephen R. Farris

Are you tired of feeling rundown all of the time? Have you lost motivation to exercise? Does your body have more aches and pains than when you were younger? Well, it might be time to make a lifestyle change, drop a few pounds, and bring a more youthful spirit into the picture.

Much of this could be as simple as changing your eating habits, and/or starting an exercise program for at least 10-15 minutes daily, which could help you get better rest at night, lose a few pounds, and give you more energy.

Here are a few ideas you can try to help you get started.

Walking Is Your Friend

When it comes to exercise, think of walking as your friend. It's simple and easy to do and it won't cost you the price of a gym membership. All you need is a comfortable pair of shoes, clothing for weather conditions and you're good to go. You can start off by walking for about 10-15 minutes each day, then after a week or two, work your way up to more of a brisk walk for longer periods each time. Walking can help increase your oxygen intake and get your heart rate up in a healthy way. Plus it could lead to dropping a few pounds as well.

Become Your Own Chef

With today's fast-paced environment, it's easier to forget about eating meals at home and hit the drive-thru or a favorite restaurant before or after work, or even for lunch. These places -- even though they advertise it -- don't really offer healthy eating choices. Your best bet is to set aside some time and prepare more meals at home or take a day to meal prep for the week. This will give you the opportunity to add more raw vegetables, lean cuts of meat, and fresh fruits to your daily diet. It puts you in control. Eating healthy can also help you lose weight, make you feel more energy, as well as put you in a better mood.

Breakfast is a Good Starter for the Day

They (nutritionists) say breakfast is a good way to start your day. A breakfast high in protein -- eggs, for instance -- are full of protein. There are lots of things you can do with eggs. You can add veggies for a healthy omelet, mix in some cheese and onions, or eat them scrambled if you prefer. A breakfast high in protein will also keep you from craving that mid-morning snack you may have been used to.
