Holiday Travel: How to Keep It Healthy

Do you have holiday travel in your plans? Research suggests that between Thanksgiving and Christmas, millions will travel hundreds of miles to gather with family to celebrate. Whether you are excited about your trip or not, there are some things you should keep in mind while you make your way to your final destination. Health and wellness experts suggest that maintaining your health while traveling can prove to be more difficult than many expect. These professionals suggest that while you may let your guard down during the holidays, it is vital that you do not completely throw your health out the window. A few tips these experts advise to maintain good overall health while traveling this holiday season include:

  • Drink plenty of water along the way
  • Get up and move

Pack Snacks for the Trip

When traveling for the holidays it can be nearly impossible to find healthy food choices along your route. Rather than being captive to the fast food choices along the highway, health and wellness experts advise that you should pack snacks to keep your eating on point. Packing your own snacks allows you to have control of what you eat. Healthy snacks include fruits and veggies.

Drink Plenty of Water Along the Way

Consuming plenty of water is essential in promoting good overall health and wellness. Traveling can put your digestive system in turmoil. Rather than having yours run amok, making sure to drink water can help keep your bowels functioning properly. It is advised that you consume at least half of your body weight in ounces each day. Keep in mind that drinking plenty of water while traveling will require you to make plenty of pit stops along the way.  

Get Up and Move

Throughout the holiday season, especially while you travel, it is necessary to take the time to get some exercise. This could possibly mean allowing time to walk and stretch your legs when you make restroom stops.
