Back-to-School Sans Back Pain

By Virginia Laird

As students and teachers get ready to head back to the classroom, there is some concern about the impending back pain. While both teachers and students may have had a pain-free summer, getting back into the swing of being on your feet all day and sitting at a desk can prove to be a challenge for the body. Each year millions of teachers and students report suffering with back pain within the first week of school. Chiropractors suggest that there are plenty of things to do to help prevent such pain from taking over and interrupting what could be a great week. A few tips you should try to help prevent back pain while you are at school including:

  • Check your shoes
  • Invest in a rolling bag
  • Consider routine chiropractic care

Check Your Shoes

All too often those heading back to school dress to impress the first week. This includes many items which have never been worn, or for that matter broken in, including shoes. Chiropractors suggest that while you may want to wear your new shoes to school, wearing them without having them broken in can be a disaster for your feet. This can lead to a great deal of back pain and restriction in the spine. To help prevent this, wear your new shoes an hour or so each day leading up to the first week of school. Another tip is to make sure you are wearing shoes that are comfortable on your feet. To put back pain behind you, make sure you are wearing the correct shoes when you head back to the classroom.

Invest in a Rolling Bag

Whether you are a teacher or a student, both can suffer from back pain when lugging around heavy loads throughout the day. Many chiropractors suggest their patients to invest in a rolling bag which can help relieve tension and weight from the spine. A bag with wheels can help you prevent back pain and shifting of the joints of the spine. Make sure to double-check your school's policy when it comes to backpacks before making that investment.

Consider Routine Chiropractic Care

If you are serious about preventing back pain, routine chiropractic care can be beneficial.
