Treating Chronic Headaches
Headaches are an all too common occurrence globally, and in the United States alone over 15 million people deal with them on a chronic basis. Addressing the headache epidemic seems to be difficult as the underlying issue is often neglected. Pain medication and prescriptions only mask the issue by treating a symptom (pain) instead of correcting the cause. So what influences chronic headaches and their severity, and is there a viable solution that actually works on a long term scale?
Headache Woes and Failed Remedies
The severity of a headache can range from minor discomfort to debilitating pain. If you have ever dealt with a migraine, you know the reality of lying down, closing the blinds, and writhing in silence while your head throbs. Even on a milder scale, headaches are frustrating, because they impact your ability to think clearly and be productive. Many people who resort to medication experience the rebound headache effect, in which their bodies get used to the drug and headaches get worse. Pain medication, when taken regularly, can also lead to liver, kidney, and/or stomach problems.
Causes and Treatment
Headaches are caused by a variety of things. Muscle tension, stress, sinus congestion, and vascular issues are some of the common culprits. In addition, spinal subluxation plays a role, and can put pressure on nerves near the spine, causing pain to radiate to the head (be it in the temples, at the base of the neck, top of the head, etc.) Chiropractic is a real solution for those who suffer from chronic headaches because it goes to the cause of the problem, and corrects it through non-invasive adjustment techniques. In fact, many first time chiropractic patients experience immediate relief, and with continued treatment, some see a complete cessation of chronic headaches.
The bottom line is this: headaches are annoying, frustrating, and even debilitating. But there is a solution – one that is natural, safe, and effective. Chiropractic care in the treatment of headaches is a powerful option for people who are fed up and looking for real results.
