Beat the Summer Heat With These 5 Tips

By Brandi Goodman

The summer heat can bring your body down quickly if you aren't careful. It's necessary to take some extra precautions during the hottest months of the year so you aren't putting yourself in danger. Heat stroke can be deadly, after all. Beat the remainder of the summer heat with these five tips in mind.

Drink Water Throughout the Day

Don't wait until you're overly thirsty to take a drink of water. Instead, it's important that you continue to drink H20 all throughout the day - especially while you're outside. The hydration will help to keep your body stable and feeling well, rather than allowing symptoms of dehydration to take hold.

Take Shaded Breaks

It isn't wise to spend hours in the hot sun with no breaks or shade. You need regular shaded breaks in order to keep your body cool and protected. Find the nearest tree or get underneath a home or building's awning. If nothing is nearby, at least make sure you have a hat on so its brim can offer some minor protection.

Avoid Exercising During the Hottest Hours

Between 10 am and 4 pm, you're likely to experience the day's hottest hours. This is when the sun is the harshest and the heat can really have an effect on your body. If you plan on exercising outdoors, it's best to avoid doing so during this timeframe. Stick with an early morning workout if you must, when the sun isn't beating down so hard.

Hit the Water

It tends to feel much cooler while you're in the water. Find a local pool or hit the beach to cool off the way you need on a hot day. Even pouring a bottle of water over your head can help to cool down your system and help you feel alright when the sun is blaring down on you.

Find an Air-Conditioned Environment

If you want to avoid the heat altogether, make your way to an air-conditioned environment. Walk the mall. Visit the library. Many public buildings keep their spaces air-conditioned and safe for more people to be inside at once.

With these tips, you should have an easier time staying as cool as possible and avoiding the harshness of the heat. You want to be able to enjoy the rest of the summer, but that shouldn't mean putting yourself in danger to do so.
