Small Habits That Make a Big Impact on Health
By Genevieve Cunningham
Habits. We all have them. Some have a habit of biting nails or twisting hair. Some have a smoking habit or a junk food habit. The good news is that most habits are relatively harmless. In fact, it’s the habits that we do every day that make us who we are. But what if we want to change who we are? More specifically, what if we want to make ourselves healthier? Is it possible? Yes, and it’s best to start with these habits. If you’re ready to change your health (and life!) for the better, take a look at these small habits that can make a big impact on your health and wellness.
Get Up Early
This might seem like a really small thing to worry about, but getting up early can make a huge impact. Those who wake up early tend to be more productive, more positive, and healthier as a whole. Does this mean you can never stay up late? Of course not. Sleeping in on occasion won’t really hurt anything. But staying up late and sleeping in every single day might take its toll. Get to bed earlier, wake up early in the morning, and you’ll likely find that your mental and physical health change for the better.
Water Before Dinner
If you don’t already do this, you’ll probably be shocked at how much of a difference it makes! Before every meal, drink one glass full of water. Then eat. Since you’ve just filled your stomach with water, you won’t be as hungry, and so you’ll eat less food. Over time, this will lower your daily caloric intake, and eventually, may lead to weight loss. And if you’re even a little over weight, losing the extra pounds can seriously alter your health for the better.
Breathe Fresh Air
Everyone needs a little time outside. The sun, the fresh air, the elements. There’s something about it that is soothing and calming to the soul. If you want to improve your health, both physically and mentally, spending time outdoors is necessary. It doesn’t have to be days long, or even hours long. Go outside, breathe some fresh air, and then come back in. Do that a few times a day, and you’ll probably notice your desire for time outside grows, and that your health improves in a significant way.
Improving your health can be easy. While doctor’s visits, long-term health plans, and medications may help you along the journey, it’s the little habits that you do every day that make the biggest difference. Use these tips to alter your day just a little and to improve your health in a big way.
