It’s easy to make lists of things we intend to do. But sometimes we have to cut through all the extra stuff and actually do a few key things to get the ball rolling. Here are a few good moves that could lead to a more worthwhile life.

Start with an online fitness evaluation, or stop by your local gym to get a fitness checkup. Whatever the readings, you will have a base to build on as you shape your summer fitness goals.

Check In With Your Checkups

Schedule your annual physical, dental check-up, and eye exam. Your annual physical results could be added to your fitness evaluation, tracking weight, and any health numbers that need to be improved.

Take a New Diet Out For a Test Drive

Really plunging into a new diet and committing to it can be tricky. But trying  a new diet for a day or two could tell you if it will work. Pick one that appeals to you. Shop the farmer’s market, fish counter or butcher, and find some good recipes on sites like Epicurious.com. Then see how it tests out for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If the switch is a winner, you can shop for more staples and expand the effort.

Streamline Your House and Your Life

Spring cleaning can spill into summer if you want it to. Start with one room, and keep right on going. Start donating unused items and weeding out old magazines, newspapers, sports equipment, and clothes. Involve your whole family to get the best results.

Pick One New Habit and Make It Happen

Choose a habit that you really want to incorporate, and weave it into your schedule. Make it hard to avoid, and it might happen. If the goal is daily running, walking, or snacking lighter, pick the best times to make it the most appealing. When it clicks right into your day, it may be time to pick another new habit to adopt.

Add Something Just for Fun

Life often seems to be full of must-do issues. But once a week, you might set aside time for a fun choice. What would you love to do if you had the time?

  • Invite friends and light up the grill
  • Try a new yoga or tai chi class
  • Take the family on a wilderness hike

Whatever it is, make it happen, and then watch everyone start planning for next week’s fun spot.
