Where Tiredness Begins and Then Gets Better
By Sandy Schroeder
If you are like me, you sometimes wonder just why you are so completely exhausted. It seemed like an ordinary day, only more so. You know. One thing collided with six others, and then things got more complicated, but now you feel completely wiped out.
Daily stress can be a big contributor to tiredness, but there are many other things that may be happening at the same time, according to MindBodyGreen.com
If you are losing sleep, skipping workouts and trying to do too much, you may be paying the price with exhaustion.
If your tiredness just never lets up, you should check in with your doctor to rule out health issues.
At the same time, scientists say your mitochondrial health may be involved. MBG says, mitochondria are the workers in your cells, responsible for converting fuel into the energy that keeps the body going. If they crash, so do you.
As we move through the middle years, and contemplate the future, we may see the impact of aging when our bodies do not support our mitochondria and we have less defense of the cells that take fuel and turn it into energy. To turn things around we can boost our mitochondria with good sleep, daily exercise and healthy foods like these.
Leafy greens - Spinach and most leafy green vegetables provide magnesium and antioxidants to support memory and cognition.
Blueberries - Blackberries and blueberries increase brainpower and protect the nerves and brain.
Pomegranate seeds - Get an antioxidant punch with these seeds. Mix them into hummus or salsa.
Grass fed beef - Get a complete round of B vitamins with small servings of grass fed beef once or twice a week.
Broccoli - Also cauliflower, kale, cabbage and collard greens keep the cells free from environmental pollutants.
Olive oil - Use extra virgin, cold pressed olive oil to get the healthy fats the body needs to fight inflammation.
Wild salmon - Get omega-3 fats to protect the brain, eyes and heart with wild Alaskan salmon on the grill or in your salads.
Avocado - Get new brain power with your favorite avocado dish, filled with healthy fats, Vitamin E and antioxidants.
Wherever you are on the tiredness scale, don't just accept it. See your doctor if it persists, eat better, exercise more and make sleep a priority.
