Quick and Simple Meditation Tips For Everyone
Contrary to what many people believe, you don’t need a lot of time to meditate. In fact, those few moments that you have in between stresses are perfect for a little mini-meditation time. So the next time you find yourself stuck in a grocery store line that’s not moving forward or in a traffic jam with no end in sight, try the following techniques for calling upon your inner Zen.
Identify the Emotion
Many times I find myself getting stressed out with no idea why. I used to find myself constantly battling bad moods for no apparent reason. Then a few years ago, I learned the simplest and most effective way to manage them in minutes. I simply ask myself what I’m feeling and why. If you question your emotion, without judgment, you’ll find that most times that’s enough to squelch any lingering irritation. Simply repeating the offense and acknowledging it is often all it takes to get you back on track.
Choose the Appropriate Emotion as Your Mantra
I find that one of my biggest triggers is rudeness. Other people are able to shrug off poor manners, but it’s grating to me and if I let it, it will sour my mood. I combat this by accepting my feelings as “right.” I then think of what I need to do to overcome the feeling. In almost every case, I find that I’m lacking tolerance or patience for others. By simply repeating the phrase, “I am tolerant and patient with others,” I calm down quickly.
Take a Deep Breath
Breath is the key to control and using it with your mantra can provide you with powerful benefits. Simply take a deep breath, hold it in and inhale while repeating your mantra. Just a few minutes is all it takes to get you back in your happy place.
