Finding Calm Amongst Chaos

By Rachel Shouse

Problems seem to have a way of finding us. We surely don't ask for them. We don't ask for our car to have problems, our babysitter to get sick, our parents to be hospitalized, etc. Educating yourself on how stress works is step No. 1.  Your brain sends out and takes in information. You take in sights, sounds, feelings, and your brain does what it does. Too much of those things trigger a stress response in your brain. Stress has negative effects on both your mental and physical health. In order to protect yourself from this inevitable problem, it's important that you know the symptoms. This will help you better identify the problem. It's also wise to know quick, easy, and simple ways to help you through difficult times.

The Negative Effects of Stress on Your Mental and Physical Health

While stress may feel like it only affects your mental health, it also affects your physical health. Neither of these are more important than the other, so knowing how to protect yourself from the negative effects of stress is more beneficial than some may know.

Physical symptoms can include headaches, stomachaches, shaking, drowsiness, and more. In order to reduce some of the physical symptoms, learning deep breathing techniques, eating a healthy diet, getting plenty of exercise, and getting adequate sleep are game-changers

Mental symptoms can include anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, inability to focus, and more. Essential oils are an excellent product to try. There are also breathing techniques, intentional thinking, and other habits you can implement in your day-to-day life that greatly reduce stress.

Products and Techniques That Could Reduce Your Stress

Learning what helps the negative physical aspects of stress takes effort. They very much become a habit with time. Great habits, like eating well and exercising, are a great place to start. Be sure to not expect perfection right off the bat. Creating habits takes time.

Intentional thinking may seem silly. However, we've all caught ourselves thinking something about ourselves or others that we normally wouldn't think. We all have moments and no one's perfect, but training yourself to filter your thoughts can help give you a break from the stress that life, inevitably, throws at us.

Remember that you can't completely eliminate or run away from this. Facing our problems head-on can help us conquer the issue all together, thus avoiding further stress. When that's not possible, it's important to know how to help yourself through stressful times.
