Morning Routines for Better Days
By Donna Stark
Have you ever felt like your bed is the starting block of your day and that once your alarm goes off, the race to nighttime has officially begun? Do you find yourself running through your day trying to be as productive as you can, yet never feeling completely satisfied that everything is getting done? Some people have no problem jumping out of bed and winning that race, but many others will hit the sack at night feeling unfulfilled and disappointed with the day's outcome. If you can relate with the latter group more than the first and are having trouble finding your footing throughout the course of your day, perhaps a consistent morning routine will help.
Start Your Morning Off on the Right Foot
By establishing a consistent morning routine, your days could begin to run a little more smoothly. Here are some simple suggestions to get you started.
- Get a jump on your day - Oftentimes, we are more productive in the morning than later in the day, so wake up a little bit earlier and use that time to your advantage. Make a list of priorities for the day, throw a load of laundry in, or take care of your time-consuming tasks, such as going through and answering emails. You may be surprised by how good it feels to get things done before the others in your family even open their eyes.
- Give yourself some "me" time - You can't pour from an empty cup and you know that once the day starts, personal time for yourself is pretty limited. So, even if it's just an extra 15 minutes, use this time in the morning to take care of yourself. Enjoy that cup of coffee in silence, meditate, or fall into a book. It's a great way to begin your day.
- Use the time to move - Crossing off your workout first thing in the morning can save you a lot of precious time in the day, time that you would rather spend with your family or need to spend at work. It's also a great way to get your heart rate up, to get those feel-good hormones flowing, and to jump-start both your brain and your body for the day ahead.

If you are looking to streamline your days so that they can run more smoothly, a consistent morning routine may be your answer! So whether you use the above suggestions or come up with your own, start planning for better days today!
