Stop Letting Your Job Stress You Out

Work can be a stress trigger for almost everyone. It doesn’t matter how much you love or hate your job, stress is usually present in the workplace. The bad news is that you can’t just eliminate your job in order to ditch the office headache. However, the good news is that there are many ways to get a grip on workplace stress, and better manage how you handle the pressure.

As people get older they begin to realize their own mortality, and start to worry more about serious issues. Usually these problems are integrated with their workplace life, since almost all American adults work 40 plus hours every week. This type of work ethic can cause major health problems. Stress accounts for up to 90 percent off all hospital visits and, if in high enough doses, can cause heart disease, diabetes, weight problems and disturbed sleep. Because of these consequences, it is crucial that stress is effectively managed in all aspects of life.

The human body reacts to stress just as seriously as the brain does. Stress triggers hormonal imbalances, which physically impacts us.  It leaves its mark on the body by lowering its immune system, causing fatigue, damaging the heart and creating depression. However, there are measures you can take to help eliminate physical stress from your life.

Processed foods have been proven to elevate stress levels. By eliminating these types of foods and replacing them with whole foods, it is possible to lower anxiety. Feeding your body nutritious fruits and vegetables can help improve your mental stability. Exercise can also help relieve stress. Physical activity can almost immediately make you feel better since it boosts endorphin levels, which make you feel happy.

Whether it’s going on a jog or practicing yoga, getting a workout in will help clear your mind and mentally prepare for your next day at work. Just remember to follow your diet and exercise plan with a good night’s sleep. It’s almost impossible to get anything done when you haven’t gotten enough sleep. Getting eight hours in will significantly improve your mental stamina and allow you to clearly troubleshoot at work.

Since banishing the work environment from your life is not an option, it is important to take the steps necessary to ease your stress levels. If stress-eliminating exercises are not working, it might be necessary to contemplate cutting back hours at work. Even if that means taking an extra long lunch once a week to catch up with a friend, fitting in a Pilates class or even sneaking in a power nap, make it a priority to lower your stress and experience meaningful life moments.
