These Bad Habits Can Cause Spine Issues

By Stepy Kamei

We all tend to worry about what we could be doing to keep our health at an optimal level. We know about the importance of eating nutritious meals, getting enough sleep every night, and maintaining a solid exercise routine. However, one area many of us tend to overlook is the health and well-being of our spinal columns. The spine just isn't an area of the body that's often in the forefront of our minds, yet it's one of the most important facets of our bodies. The spine serves to protect the central nervous system, and it also keeps the body balanced and upright. These reasons are why the well-being of the entire body can often be linked to whether the spinal column is in good health or not. As with other aspects of your health and wellness routine, you should make sure you are doing what you can to cut back on these unhealthy habits that may be making your spine health worse.

Not Visiting a Chiropractor On a Regular Basis

Chiropractic care is a safe, all-natural, and very effective treatment plan which has been relied on by people all across the world for centuries. A common misconception is that chiropractic care can only serve to bring relief from back pain. Though chiropractic can help with this common health issue, people who see a doctor of chiropractic and get spinal adjustments on a regular basis tend to experience better health and wellness overall. Chiropractic patients tend to report fewer instances of health concerns such as headaches, back aches, joint stiffness, fatigue, insomnia, digestive troubles, anxiety, and even mood swings and irritability.

Binging on Food (and Drinks) Which Cause Inflammation

Foods which are high in sugar, fat and salt tend to cause inflammation throughout the body, especially around the spinal cord. Inflammation often stiffens the joints and creates restrictions to the area, which is what often causes pain. Add foods into your diet that are low in these substances for better spinal wellness.

Not Moving Enough -- Or Moving Too Much

It's true that you don't want to strain your back muscles by overworking them -- but this doesn't mean you should be still for most of the day. Since most of us work in an office, it can be difficult to find the balance. Try setting alarms to remind yourself to get up and stretch at your desk; this will prevent stiffness from setting in.
