Kid-Specific Ailments That a Chiropractor May Treat
By Genevieve Cunningham
As parents, nothing is more important in life than our children. We want them to be happy and well adjusted. And of course, we absolutely want them to be as healthy as possible. While we strive to keep them away from illness and injury, sometimes we forget about the alternative measures that can be taken to keep kids healthy. These prevention techniques, things such as chiropractic care, are excellent for setting kids up on a healthy path early in life, and they’re also effective at keeping kids healthier right now. To get started, take a look at these kid-specific ailments that regular chiropractic care may help treat.
Recurrent Ear Infections
Any parent knows the struggle of a child with ongoing ear infections. Fever, ear pain, and trouble hearing … it’s the worst. Chiropractors, as they ease restrictions in the vertebrae of the spine, enable the body to work more efficiently. This includes the sinus cavities, which are thought to drain better and remove pressure from the inner ear. Whatever the cause of the reduction, parents who take their kids for regular treatments claim this as a major benefit of getting care.
Bedwetting
Bedwetting happens to almost all kids at one point or another. But while most kids will have one or two instances, for other children it’s an ongoing problem. This can be frustrating for the parent and embarrassing for the child. How does chiropractic care help? It’s thought that children who suffer from chronic bedwetting are so deep in their sleep that they don’t wake up when the urge arises. It’s a defect of sorts, and this results in wetting the bed. Chiropractic care helps to correct the communication in the body, so that when the urge to use the bathroom comes up, even in deep slumber, the child notices and wakes up on time.
Colic
This ailment is generally reserved for small babies, but any parent with a colicky baby knows that the struggle is real. What is colic? It’s crying … and more crying … and then a little more, all thought to be brought on by pain in the abdomen. When infants are taken for adjustments, instances of colic seem to be reduced. Babies suffer from less pain, cry less often, and seem more satisfied. Why? Researchers aren’t certain why this phenomenon happens, but they speculate that spinal manipulation allows the body of the infant to work better, which then eases the pain and crying.
