A No Fear Guide for First Time Chiropractic Patients

In the past, when I’ve talked to people about visiting a chiropractor, I usually get one of two reactions. The first is an agreement nod. They’ve also been to the chiropractor, and they are well familiar with the benefits. The second is a wide eyed, almost scared expression. This is when I know they’ve never been, and most likely it’s because they are afraid.

Fear of the chiropractor is common. It’s just something new that many people are unfamiliar with, and that can be scary! The benefits that come from chiropractic care, however, are so numerous that fear should not be a factor. If you’ve never been, but might be interested, check out this no fear guide to your first time visit.

What Should I Expect at My First Visit?

The first time, you’ll probably get a bit of a consultation. Why are you here? Are you in pain? How much pain? These questions will be asked in order to determine what sort of treatment plan should be set in place for you. You’ll also speak with a chiropractor face to face, so any questions that you have can be answered then and there. That will then be followed by a possible examination and possible treatment. Was my first time at the clinic scary? At first, yes. Should it have been? No way! Afterwards, the benefits were so great that the chiropractor became a part of my regular routine.

Does the Treatment Hurt?

Most of the time, not at all. Most people actually report that it feels good. For me, that was most certainly true. The treatment felt really good immediately after. The pain that most people feel occurs after the visit, and it’s not really so much as pain as it is soreness, much akin to the soreness felt after a workout or a massage. The scary part is the sound that sometimes accompanies the treatment. Many report a loud “popping” sound, but this is very rarely accompanied by any pain. It sounds a lot like when you crack your knuckles, and it is considered completely normal.
