How to Protect Your Neck and Still Enjoy Your Electronic Device
Technology is a great thing; I’m pretty sure most can agree on that. In fact, without technology, you wouldn’t be reading this right now. Most of us have some sort of technology strapped to us in some way almost all of the time. Whether we are at our desk on a laptop, in bed with a tablet, or constantly attached to our phones, technology is pretty much a staple in today’s world. The downside of technology? It might be killing your spine! To protect your spine without giving up your favorite piece of technology, check out these tips for optimal spinal health.
Lift Your Device
Protecting your neck might be as simple as lifting your device to eye level. Imagine your posture when you are on your phone. Stooped over, neck bent, eyes downward. Instead, pull your phone up and keep it at eye level. You might feel a little strange at first, but the health benefits far outweigh any embarrassment that might come. Keeping your neck up instead of bent can keep away stiffness and pain, and keep your neck healthier longer.
Use a Head Rest
If you are not keen on keeping your device at eye level all of the time, try making sure that you have a way to rest your head often. Buy a chair that has a headrest, or at the very least, has a high enough back to get a little relief for your neck. In bed, stuff a pillow behind your head while you are on your device. Giving the muscles in your neck a little break can go a long way in protecting your neck.
Put It Down
This is probably the least popular technique since very few of us actually want to give up technology for any length of time. It can be very beneficial, however, to give up the device occasionally. You don’t have to give it up for good. A simple rest period can do wonders. It can especially be beneficial to say no to technology in the bedroom. This ensures that, once in bed, sleep is the priority instead of spending hours on your phone.
Chiropractic Care
Getting regular chiropractic care is a great way to keep your neck in good shape without giving up your favorite device. A chiropractor may be able to align the misalignments that occur along the vertebrae of the spine. Long term device use can lead to some of these misalignments. Getting care on a regular basis may be able to put these back in proper alignment and lead to better spinal health.
To get chiropractic care, get to The Joint...the Chiropractic Place. With walk-in appointments and a no insurance policy, more and more people are able to get the help they need. A chiropractor at The Joint may be able to align your spine and get you in great spinal health. That way you can enjoy your favorite device and maintain your neck and back for years to come.
