Chiropractic Advice for Changing Pain-Causing Habits

By Brandi Swieter

Many people complain about the pain they've been experiencing to their chiropractors. Much of what's described is actually self-inflicted, caused by people's own poor habits. By listening to some chiropractic advice, it's possible to change these pain-causing habits and lead a healthier life.

Avoid Slouching When Steering

Not many drivers sit up straight like they're supposed to when they're behind the wheel. Slouching when steering or gripping too tight are both fast ways for pain to set in. Using a cushion or lumbar support pillow behind the back is recommended to prevent pain and keep the back upright.

Stop Skipping Exercise

Exercise makes the joints stronger. A stronger body is less likely to experience injury or struggle with pain. Too many people skip their workout or stop exercising with an excuse that they don't have the time or they're too tired. Missing too much exercise will lead to weak bodies that feel pain more often. Stop skipping and get it done.

Eat Healthier Foods

Foods that are bad for the body tend to clog the systems within it. With poor digestion, clogged arteries, and a weak immune system you're more likely to feel pain on a regular basis. It's important to eat healthier foods that will strengthen the immune system and make the digestive tract work efficiently. Stick with vegetables and fruits that contain high amounts of vitamins and nutrients.

Replace Your Mattress

Far too many people sleep on the same mattress for much longer than the recommended time. Experts used to recommend switching after at least eight years, but five seems to be the most beneficial. People who purchase a new mattress after five years' time tend to see less back pain and better sleep. Getting enough rest each night is reason in itself to switch. Poor sleep leads to stress which leads to tension.

Don't Ignore Pain

If you're one of those people who tends to try to push past pain or ignore it altogether, you're doing much more harm to yourself. Attempting to suppress pain often leads to pain in other areas. People tend to clench up or tighten certain muscles to help avoid feeling pain in other areas. This can lead to a pinched nerve or a pain experience in both locations instead.

Pain-causing habits need to be changed if the pain is ever expected to go away for good. Though trips to the chiropractor will undoubtedly help ease discomfort, it may not fully eliminate the problem. Regular visits to The Joint Chiropractic paired with some healthy changes can help make significant improvement in daily living and overall health.
