Get Better Sleep This Spring With Chiropractic

By Brandi Goodman

It can be hard to sleep well when the weather warms up. The spring is just the start of the heat for much of Arizona, with temperatures only increasing as the season continues and leads to summer. Learn to get some better sleep in the heat with chiropractic tips.

Wet Your Hair and Feet

You lose heat through your extremities first. This means the head and feet are among the first places to feel sweaty and hot when you're trying to sleep in the warm weather. You should wet them before going to sleep so they're able to stay cool. Use lukewarm or cool water -- not cold. Water that's too cold will have adverse effects because your core temperature will rise when the cold makes your blood vessels constrict.

Use a Chiropractic Pillow

The right pillow can go a long way toward helping you sleep at night. A chiropractic adjustment may be best if you experience neck discomfort or have spinal issues. With your head and neck properly supported, you should be able to rest more comfortably.

Change Your Bedding

You may have used a thicker comforter or fleece blanket for cold winter nights. Now that spring's arrived and the weather's getting warmer, these blankets will be too much. You need to change your bedding and use something lightweight instead. A cotton sheet may be enough for extremely hot nights, while a regular cotton blanket will work if it's still a tad chilly.

Remember Daily Hydration

Being dehydrated can be a cause for concern on hot days and nights. If you don't get enough water to drink throughout the day, it can make you toss and turn at night. You may find yourself needing to get up and get a drink to help cool you down. Remember to hydrate daily, and often, so your body can be prepared for a full night's rest.

See a Chiropractor

Chiropractic care is one option for improved sleep. Getting care for yourself is great for your physical and mental health. You can reduce your stress and tension in your body, which promotes better sleep on its own. Add in the adjustment provided by the doctor of chiropractic and you'll feel less pain and aches throughout your body as well. This is even more reason for getting more rest the night after.

Starting this spring, you have the option to get better sleep. It's just a matter of getting to the chiropractor and taking their advice into consideration. With joint restrictions corrected and these tips in mind, you should be able to drift off easier.
