Better Your Back With These Chiropractic Tips

By Brandi Goodman

Back pain is all too common in Americans. Stress from jobs, excessive weight, poor posture, excessive phone use, and more lead to increasing levels of back pain. In order to better your back and keep the associated aches at bay, it's important to follow some tips from the chiropractor.

Improve Core and Back Strength

Exercise is one of the best things you can do to eliminate pain. It may be difficult at first, but building up your strength will undoubtedly help you restore the strength of your body and help you keep pain at bay. Core exercises that target both your abdominal and back muscles are a huge help. The bridge is an easy exercise that works well for beginners. Simply lay on your back and raise your hips off the floor. Hold this position for a few seconds before returning to the starting position. If you can't hold yourself in place, simply raise your hips and lower them back down immediately.

Sleep With Your Spine in Mind

Your spine is often placed in compromising positions while you sleep. Too many people use an outdated mattress, flat pillow, or too many pillows that all interfere with the spine's natural position. Sleep with your spine in mind so you can keep your back strong and avoid waking up each day with significant pain. Start by getting a new mattress and chiropractic pillow.

Limit Phone Use

The cellphone is the culprit of neck, shoulder, pack, and even eye pain for many. If you spend too much time on your device, it's time to limit your use. Take regular breaks and make sure you're getting up and away from your phone. When you do look at it, don't sit slumped with your neck tilted downward. You should bring the phone up to eye level, keeping your neck forward.

Maintain Good Posture

Good posture isn't just necessary while using a phone or similar device. You need to exhibit good posture in everything you do. When you're sitting on the couch, make sure you're upright and not slouched. When you're standing for long intervals, stand with your shoulders back and your head facing forward. You should also shift from one foot to the other so you aren't leaning to one leg and causing discomfort to a particular side of your body.

Leave your back pain behind by bettering your back. By maintaining your core and back strength, engaging in healthier posture and activities, and improving the way you sleep, you can have the strong support your body needs. If you still experience discomfort, head to The Joint Chiropractic for an assessment.
