You Can Still Fly Kites As Good As A Kid

By Tom Herrin

It seems to me that too many of us forget what it was like to be a child.  A lot of the simple things they do can actually be enjoyed by people of all ages.  The problem is that frequently we believe that we just have too many important things to worry about.  We worry about paying bills and taking care of our responsibilities, but do we consider the importance of taking care of our own health and well-being?  If we go down, who will be available to worry about those bills and family members?  It is vitally important to take a break occasionally.  It is OK to take a break and let yourself be a kid.  Flying a kite could benefit you in several ways.

They Can Bring Out Our Creativity

In case you haven’t noticed, kites can be any color.  Make your own or buy one and make it yours.  Add colors, make a tail, paint pictures on it.  They can really be beautiful.  When you loft it into the air on a clear day, you will see this colorful creation backed by a field of blue.  It's not only pleasing, it can improve your vision.  The simple act of looking at the picture you will have painted in the sky and distinguishing among the contrasts can strengthen your eye muscles and help avoid some common vision problems.

It Is A Way To Socialize

If you go to a park and fly a kite, you may be surprised at how many new people you will meet.  Kites naturally attract other people who have a desire to enjoy the scene.  You may meet more people of different ages than you could meet in any other endeavor.  Holding and managing a kite in the air is a physically satisfying feeling as you deal with the elements of nature.

It Can Relieve Stress

Once you get your things together and get a kite in the air, you may just forget about some of those worries.  Finding an effective way to relieve stress is as critical to your health as rest and exercise.  Flying a kite is a pretty good way to loosen up and relax.  There is nothing to compare to it for the meager price of $10 or less.  You can spend a lot more if you want to, but there is no such requirement.  Go ahead.  Get out there with those kids and let yourself be one of them.  You may be pleasantly surprised at how good it feels.
