First Steps to Better Health: Here's Where to Start
By Genevieve Cunningham
Everyone knows that focusing on your health is the best way to a better life. Our health really matters. When our health -- be it mental, emotional, or physical -- suffers in any way, it can truly diminish your quality of life. But if we're being honest with ourselves, getting and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is quite the challenge. Where do we even begin? If you are ready to turn your health around, take a look at these three tips that are the best place to start.
Start With Water
Water is a powerful tool for better health, which is why it's one of the best places to begin. You don't have to make a complete switch from your current drinks to water all in one day. It's OK to go slowly. Start by adding one or two more glasses per day, and work your way up from there. The more water that you drink, the more you may notice healthy benefits such as clear skin, better digestion, a reduction in headaches, and better health as a whole.
Start With Walking
Exercise can be intimidating. If you're not used to working out, don't try to jump into a hardcore workout at the very beginning. Instead, opt for something that's low-impact and easy on your body. And the best place to start may be with simple walking. Find a trail nearby, buy some supportive shoes, and go for a simple easy walk in the evening. You may find that this is incredibly enjoyable, which can help you stick with the habit and eventually evolve into a harder, more effective workout in the long run.
Start With a Schedule
Most people really underestimate the power of a good schedule. Many who are unhealthy don't follow a very good routine from day to day. If this is you, the best place to begin is by making yourself a regular routine for you to stick with. This might include regular wake up and bedtimes, regular eating times, and times to engage in particular activities throughout the day. Schedules help your body function at its best, so take the time to create a routine and your body will thank you in the long run.
It can definitely be challenging to create healthy habits in your life. But it's absolutely not impossible. Use these tips as a place to begin. Once you get started, it's easier to maintain and change your habits as time goes on. With just a few minor changes, you may be able to improve your health and your life for years to come.
